3rd Grade Christmas Concert

I'm so proud of my 3rd Graders this year. They sang their hearts out for their Christmas concert in December and performed the best Jingle Bell dance routine for the school. The  show was a big hit with the parents, staff and children.

We also had a Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long for the other half of our show that was a big hit with the audience. Get your copy of the Sing-A-Long on my TPT tab or click on the picture at the bottom of this page. Have a save and Happy New Year!

Music Careers

Music Career Project

"A CD About ME" 6th -9th Grade Project

This CD project was a big hit with my sixth graders. Each student
designed a CD cover  (or jacket) as if it were his/her own debut CD.
The covers needed to include photos, graphics, Art designs or clip art
that would make their CD stand out for others to buy.  Next they would
create a song list with at least three song titles that reflected things about
their life on the back of the cover. They were allowed to use one popular
song title from current artists (with appropriate words and messages in
the lyrics). The song titles the students came up with were  very creative.
This CD cover was made with colored typing paper, but my class was
allowed to use other covers such as scrap booking paper.

I was able to teach students how to protect their CD's with inexpensive
CD covers. This project allowed me to nicely lead into music careers for my
class to explore. I was also able to collect a list of songs that my students
love to sing. You could even talk to the class about using technology to learn
how to burn their favorite song on a CD. You will have a tangible project to use
for grading. You can google "How to make CD covers/ jackets" and pick the
best way for your own class. (For more exciting lessons and fun things to do with your class, be sure to Sign up by email on my side bar to claim your monthly freebie, teacher tips & tricks).

Fun Musical Story Lesson

Kindergartens love to hear the story of the Gingerbread Man. This is a great time of year to get your kids singing with you as you tell the story of the Gingerbread Man.  They can sing "run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man" as you present the story to them.

After the story, I place these pictures on the board for my kindergarten to play the rhythms of the pictures on the drums. They are really good at playing picture words now with 3 and 4 sound syllables.
My classes love musical stories and can't wait to sing along with them.  I would love to hear from everyone about other activities they like to do with this story or other musical stories.

December Fun!

So many fun things to do for December music lessons. I like to teach my class about the story of the Nutcracker Ballet in December. We also like to do Christmas Caroling in December. If you want to save time, here is a premade slideshow with Christmas Carols. It is editable so you can add more songs or sing them in the order you want for a Holiday School Assembly. Just click on the picture to grab your ready made slideshow with Christmas Carols. Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Game

Turkey Time:

Here's a fun game to play with your kindergarten - 2nd graders.  I have a stuffed turkey that my classes love to use. The game is played like duck, duck goose as they sing any turkey songs that you want to use. The child that is tapped on the last word of the song chases the child with the turkey to see if they will have a turkey dinner for Thanksgiving. The turkey is given to the child that did the chasing and the game starts over again. I use this game to practice the beat to a song with the class. I also use it to find the rhythm of the song for 1st and 2nd graders. Your class will love this game as they try to catch the turkey for Thanksgiving Dinner.
Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

How I Introduce the music staff to kindergarten

Fun Way to Introduce the Music Staff To Your Kindergarten

Introduce the five lines on a music staff to your kindergarteners with this poem. Placing one pumpkin at a time on the fence as you tell them to echo the poem back to you one phrase at a time.

I have them count the pumpkins on the fence and then tell them that the pumpkins look like music notes on a music staff. Then I tell them that a music staff  is made up 5 lines and 4 spaces and that in music we place notes on the staff to make our music.
You can also work on vocabulary such as bar lines, treble clef sign and double bar lines. Have fun using this mini lesson.

Bring On The Super Fun Lesson Plans

Chicken On A Fence Post Game

Lucy Locket Game

Want to bring some fun and exciting lessons into your classroom?

One of the best ways I've found to bring excitement into my class is to use more games. I try to find a way to include a game that will teach the concepts I am focusing on in my lesson. It could be as simple a designing a matching game on the smart board, or having fun by getting your class moving in a group game like Four Corners.  Your students will enjoy the lesson more and you will be able to bring a spark into your lesson plans.  I love it when my class tells me that they had so much fun after they played a game. They are having so much fun that they don't even realize that they are learning many music concepts that go along with your lesson.
